Shawn Freese, PGA Head Golf Professional
Shawn is the head golf professiona at Gateway Park Golf Course and is a life-long native of Montgomery, Alabama. He was first introduced to golf at age 11 by his mother, Renee' Freese. She brought home a few antique clubs that she had won in an auction on the hopes that Shawn might be interested in learning how to play. His mom was right, and the rest, as they say, is history. Shawn became passionate about golf immediately. He played golf on the Brewbaker Jr. High teams from 1997-1999, and then continued right through high school at Jefferson Davis from 2000-2002. Shawn gained most of his golf knowledge and experience during his teenage years, thanks in large part to his Grandpa, Harry (Mario) James Freese.
Since 2005, Shawn has been in the local golf industry in one way or another. Most know him from his time spent along the way at Cottonwood Golf Course, Dick's Sporting Goods, Lagoon Park Golf Course and Gateway Park Golf Course. There are several local mentors along the way that Shawn has been inspired by, including Chris Hempen, Ryan Runser, Jim Gunnells, Brian Barker, John Sadie, Daryle Sager, Mark Savoy, Cappy Cappadona, and Mike Shirley.
Shawn's favorite quote is from Arnold Palmer - "Golf is deceptively simple and endlessly complicated. It satisfies the soul and frustrates the intellect. It is at the same time, rewarding and maddening. And it is without a doubt the greatest game mankind has ever invented."
